Desert Magic

Sahara - Uber

Click for Flickr photo and details

Those of us that have lived in the desert know that a primal magic exists within the sands.  This month's theme at Uber is Sahara.

From Trompe Loeil, the  Zohra Oasis (PG and A) offers exotic vistas with built in palms and sand dunes. Waterfalls and swimming pool are bounded by patio with fireplace. Lanterns and canopy add ambiance as you pretend to be in another world.

The Zohra Chair and Ottoman are gorgeous with texture change menu for the cushions. Not exactly prim conscious at 8li, it is quite beautiful!

As you might expect, textures rule in this exotic theme, the Cheeky Pea Desert Rose Camp Rugs  set (PG or A) come  filled with lounging animations. Colors of course abound. The poof in the photo below is also a Cheeky Pea release and there is a couch and lanterns as part of the release.

So if you need a change from your vanilla world, head on over to Uber and let your imagination fly.

Other items shown include rugs from Trident (nla) and prerelease pots and hookah from ChiC buildings (coming in July).

Calm Waters

There is something calming about water. It envelopes us in a cloak of peacefulness.

From Stories&Co. the classic Bette Swimsuit in many solid colors as well as this leafy print.

Hugging every curve, it reminds us that our mothers could be pretty sexy without showing a lot of skin *wink*.   Find it at Summerfest.

Birthday Cakes abound over at We Love Role Play. After doing the rounds, these are my personal favs. You of course may have different picks!

From Velvet Whip, a Medieval Camper Backpack. This walks well and comes with a standing hold.

From [ zerkalo ] a really lovely Bedouin Campfire with crackling sound (2li)

From Salt & Pepper, the Erica Dress in both standard and mesh body sizes.

These (Kunglers Extra) Eliza leaf earrings - Golden rose are likely my keep and wear pick.

While there are some very nice hairs at We Love Role Play, they also appear at this round of Hairology. I DEFINITELY recommend heading over there, both for bargains and gifts.

My camping "do" is  Jeanie pr!tty which comes in three root versions and with a color hud.

Birthday Bash

I am sure you know that it is SL's thirteenth birthday. Wow, that's a long time in virtual land. Along with music and exhibits, talks and trips down memory lane there are gifts.

You can find gifts at the community celebration of course.  My artist plot is right across from one of the gift areas and I did drop a box there :D. There is also a hunt and of course gifts scattered around the exhibits. All good.

This year there is something new, presents from designers at various venues around the grid.  Oddly there are no colorful birthday cakes to click on at COLLABOR88; I don't know the story there. But there are plenty of other events to check out and pick up presents while you peruse and shop. Some may be difficult to get into, so just keep trying.

Several friends journeyed out on gathering expeditions and I asked them to pick their favorite items. Here are Sami's. Most items have various sizes.

From Kustom 9:

Gabriel ::GB::Lace-up short pants and ::GB::Sports bra

From Tres Chic:

..::ILLI::.. Maitreya Ennovy Espadrilles
*TUKINOWAGUMA* *TKW* Yuko [Unrigged] with browns hud
.::Nanika::. India tattoo (white) with appliers
Serenity Style - Beach Pin

Sami reports that a lot of Tres Chic cakes were actually empty so have a cup of chamomile tea while you unpack :D -- or maybe something stronger.

Summer Shifting

Portico Chatting

 click for larger version

The sun has just moved into its summer bugling sign as I type this. The moon shines its brightest and the planet of moving forward is about to get out of its backward stepping dance.  All good things.

I spent a good part of Monday cleaning inventory. I was fairly ruthless (not a pun but it can be one if you want it to be). I seem to have gained a little weight over the winter. Those xs sizes sometimes are a bit snug these days. The better news is that we have fitmesh now and even fitmesh for various bodies. And when the designer knows their craft, mesh can fit as well as texture garments and with a more realistic look.

With that in mind and the influx of odd and old items courtesy of the beta grid glytchiness, I began honing down my inventory once again. Clutter can easily accumulate when 1. you save things because they are well crafted; 2. wear many hats including content creator; and 3. have a plethora if goodness coming your way in a constant stream via blogging and designer groups.

Happily I have always been a minimalist and I toss often; so not a collector it wasn't difficult to part with about 5000 items in my clothing folder.  I deleted all things that no longer fit, items that the mesh really wasn't all that wonderfully made compared to the quality it can be now, some REALLY old texture items that I had deleted once all ready but returned like mongrel puppies -- and things that simply were no longer ME.

I spend most of my days in a few outfits anyway. They change over time of course and new favorites replace old. I banished a few items with less than happy memories attached to them and saved a smattering of older garments that I absolutely love and that were WAY ahead of their time quality-wise.

I plan to continue with my closet cleaning. There are many folders to go through. I also -- on a whim of the day -- took backups of all the main areas in my almost quarter sim rental plot. Coalesced they were of course and put in their own folders explaining where and when the rubik's cube icons were born. I hope I never need them, but collections like this have saved me a few times over the years.

Lani and I are both looking pretty good these days. In Summer mode befitting our corporeal landscapes, we venture into girlishness now and then. After my inventory purge I vow to really think before keeping things. My goal is 35,000. Since I almost always feature NEW things, I really only need to keep my personal favorites to wear if I should  have the occasion to actually get out and about :D.

The Portico Set will be available at Lost and Found starting the 22nd. Items can be purchased individually or as a fatpack. Four colors of woods by menu. Look for the ChiC buildings booth (take a right at the fork).   Bench by Trompe  Loeil.

My outfit is a current release from Elegance Boutique at Tres Chic (previously featured).

Hair Fair 2016 is just around the corner. And one of the fun parts of WAITING (OK - there really aren't any fun parts of waiting, but something to pass the time) is the photo contest.

The rules are different each year so be sure and read the criteria. You could win some early access passes as well as some goodies.

On9 Photo Contest

On9 Photo Contest

You don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out you need to click on this small photo to zoom in on all the details!

So On9 is having a photo contest.  This isn't a linden winning enterprise; it's more about fame and glory and the opportunity to reap a lot of blogger goodness in the July round of On9 (I know the theme and it is a fun one but lips are sealed).

Anyway, while I am not actually ENTERING the contest, I thought it would be fun to do the exercise as if I were. This isn't my normal mode of photography or blogging. I am more of a show me a few things and let me see them well gal.  All that said it was much fun to do.

Both fashion and homewares are in this post and all info on the Flickr page. I am not sure how much RULES will come into play here, but most folks entering don't seem to be reading OR following, so I suggest you might actually want to CONTEMPLATE the rules and that could possibly take you along the road to winner status.

There are also three free clothing items with links in the Flickr notes, so head on over if you want either of my friend's outfits.  Mine can of course be found at On9.

Have fun, be creative. And from a designer and shopper's point of view please let us SEE the items you are blogging. You know that is sort of the point of the exercise *wink*.

Again, all the credits are with the Flickr photo. Click that top picture to get there.

Painted Lady

I have been wearing this outfit for several days now, feeling quite at home -- at home.

Lots of great new releases make up this outfit. All but one can be found at On9, but for this really great fitting tank (likely to be one of my favorites for the summer) you'll need to head over to the Black Dot Project.  The {MYNX} Aria Crop Tank comes in a ton of colors. The two pack includes a solid hue as well as a pretty tropical floral pattern. Standard mesh sizes as well as all the popular mesh bodies are covered.

The PurpleMoon Patched Jeans come in mini packs which include three styles per color and three belt options. Maitreya, Slink, Belleza and standard sizes are included in the pack. These close fitting jeans with realistic wrinkles are both comfy and stylish, perfect as part of a goto outfit for summer.

If svelte and strappy is your style, then the Elysium - Kaisa strappy pump are perfect for you.  Sixteen color choices in all!

Keep your Boho going with these statement making Farah earrings from  Slackgirl. Four colors to choose from.

And to find the title item in this post look for the .::Nanika::.Anika tattoo. White, black and henna; these come in many popular body versions including Omega. Standard tattoo layers are included in the packs.

Head over to  On9 for these items.

Family History

Family History

The girls these days have no notion what life was like in the 50's, 60's or even 70's. While equality isn't quite here yet, it is leaps and bounds ahead of where it was back then.

My great-grandmother was a suffragette. She was also the first woman school principal in Texas -- at least that is the family lore. I come from a long line of interesting women. My mother was creative back before it became popular. My grandmother was a flapper and a damn good looking woman.

When we look back, it is difficult to imagine our lives as their lives, and I suspect it is just as difficult to imagine life as it is today from our daughter's or granddaughter's perspective. Things change and in the area of women's rights. They have moved forward. May they nudge a little bit further toward that teeter totter balancing position.

From this month's COLLABOR88 offerings we have:

{what next} Ironing Board with two sizes of texture change boards with iron giver and both ironing animation and static poses. A decor only prop is also in the mix. Laundry poster art completes the release. Great for virtual homemakers and perfect for family role play.

Stories&Co. Chloe Sundress  which comes with two color huds (mostly solids) as well as a flat chested Maitreya version which would work well for preteen avatars. A Slink Physique version is also part of the offering.

Venues - A Love Hate Relationship

I can't actually remember when venue "events" became mainstream. I do know that I was in a few during my jewelry making days and that was SO long ago. Nowadays events are all the rage. I admit I really like the ability to see new releases from lots of designers all in one place. I admit that I spent a fair amount of time going through Seraphim "catalogs" to see what I might want to take a closer look at.

I have talked to some designers who swear they will never get on the venue bandwagon. I am not really clear what their problems are with this business model, but there obviously are some. Perhaps it is a bit too "cattle call" for them; they like to feel a bit higher on the totem pole.

I have blogged venues a lot in the past. Currently my shop is in three monthly venues with some specialty events now and then. It works for me.

Why? Well business-wise, there is exposure. I notice folks coming to my (now twelves times larger - OMG) shop and buying things. While the twelve times larger is impressive (well I hope so anyway) they don't KNOW that until they arrive. So the products likely have something to do with the sales.

There are lots of monthly venues out there. Getting in -- even if you make fairly impressive original mesh -- isn't all that easy. Sometimes the best way is to let the event folks find YOU. As with much these days some venues are run by folks that are really paying attention and others by folks that watched too many episodes of Legally Blonde. As with many things you can do your research  -- also known as gossip -- and try the demo (first time presence) and see where you fit.

I like these compact shopping experiences because there is a plan; often a theme; frequently a sense of camaraderie.  I love the setting up process and watching the event come together as designers add new things to the mix.

There is no real one way to market in SL these days. Long ago it was all about inworld shopping. Then the Marketplace became king and now events have added to the mix. Each avatar (and the person behind them) has their own way of discovering new products in their virtual lives. Venues are just one part of the mix.

The %Percent - Soho Cafe Table comes with texture change menu and lots of great animations with props (very convincing and good for close ups). Find it at -- you guessed it, an event -- the Vintage Fair which opens today on the 10th.

Stella River Barge

My real life friends have always said I would make a good boat person. I prefer small spaces and I am very neat -- always putting things away; eliminating clutter.  But for me, a houseboat would be even better!  Potted plants along the back deck? Yep. Perfect.

From Trompe Loeil for COLLABOR88, the Stella River Barge -- a 107 land impact cutie that will fit on a 512 coastal or water plot -- or of course along your own riverbank should you have a larger parcel.

It comes with two hammocks and in both PG and A versions with LOTS of texture choices. To be fair you will need to be a thrifty person should you be placing it on a 512.  Ten prims isn't all that much to decorate with, but happily with mesh and some smart choices it certainly could be done. There are so many things included, you don't need much more!

There are two small rooms in the cabin area.

Sami's leisure attire includes three group gifts.
