Building with Mesh Prims
The latest server code update isn't working for me. Most things don't load -- even in the Linden viewer. Yesterday my right hand was detached and floating. Today is a tad better but no way to actually DO anything. So I thought I would show you my recent experiment in building with mesh "prims".
The building is 25 land impact and of course has perfect physics. No upload costs but the 11 lindens long ago to upload the mapped mesh cube. It was fun.
You could of course do the same thing with traditional prims but they have many more vertices. I was very happy to see that while I had cleared my cache in attempts to get the viewer working better (that didn't really help) THIS building loaded instantly upon my arrival to the building pad.
Aside from some high upload costs (beta grid) exporting and importing worked well. You can see how low this is on triangle count. Some textures needed to be adjusted. I am not sure if that is the beta grid or my old mesh cube --- but still very promising.
So that is my show and tell for the day. I have another op ed in the queue and hopefully things will be working better soon.
Later in the day after typing this I installed the current FS viewer. Score one for LL --
But MOSTLY I installed it so that I could get over to Kitely :D --- so maybe not a point for LL :D
The building as built in SL (linked mesh prims) weighs in at 60 there but considering that most folks have a full sim that really doesn't matter so much LOL.
And I STILL really hate the lighting in the PBR viewer. Hopefully I will eventually adapt. I do have some of my own PBR lighting settings that I can hopefully port over. Fingers crossed. Of course there is no great need for arty screenshots there. If I can see well enough to work happily -- that will be enough.
