ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM Security - Updated

Well apparently I am back on the mailing list :D

There is a ZOOM meeting going on today with the official announcement from LL coming out most likely on Friday.  So those of you interested in security watch for that.   This is just a small clip from the invite but you can see the theme.

Some things are obvious and we do know (from the forums) that there seem to have been new and interesting gaps in security of late -- so if you do your part and Linden Lab (and Tilia - Thunes) does their parts then your virtual dollars will be safer.

This isn't a new list by any means but something to think about.  Personally, since I live alone and do not share a computer or have computers sharing even I am not a big proponent of MFA.  Oh so many times the password you need to use arrives after the time limit is up (this on sites other than SL).

Being vigilant and skeptical and having your computer security up to date is likely more important for many Second Life residents  tan locking down their accounts.   Not keeping a lot of money in your SL account is likely a good practice OR dividing the money up between alts WITH DIFFERENT PASSWORDS is a good thing too.

I personally think sharing you password should happen.  Obviously NOT with folks you have never met of course. Virtual friends are great but ...

If you have a will I would think that the folks in your will or the executor of your will would be a good place to "share".  Keep in mind that if there are large sums of money involved (this isn't many of us these days) then you might also want to put your avatar accounts in your will.

You of course don't want to lose your avatar's ACCOUNT any more than your avatar's money -- so be rational about it all.

Hopefully folks with these problems will get them solved a tad bit faster now; fingers crossed.

I'm currently writing up an after-life document for my sister to use to manage my affairs after I'm one, and my Second Life accounts are included in that. She'll have access to my password manager, and I've added instructions on what to do with my accounts — downgrade to basic membership and remove payment information, but otherwise leave them be.
