Born in the USA

For those of us in the good old USA, it is almost Independence Day. If you have a party to go to that's a little bit country and a little bit rock 'n roll, then this outfit from Prim and Pixel Paradise could fit the bill. The Savannah American Country set in on special until the 4th of July!

That great looking new skin of mine? Well it is from Tuli and exclusive at The Deck.  Jade comes in 5 tones with this being the darkest. There are three versions of bust cleavage in each set. Eyebrow colors change a bit depending on the skin tone.

The Savannah set comes with many variations including jacket choices. A tattoo is also in the mix. It is fun and casual and perfect for a picnic or a soft ball game.

I especially like the detailed belt. Mix and match to make your own style. Add some cowboy boots, comfy sandals or go barefoot. It's all good.

Nearly Neutral

I revel in neutrals. They are by far my favorite colors. I have had this great chest from Second Spaces for awhile. I love it.  So tonight when I had some other items in grays and tans to go with, I made my own personal real life collage. Max's Painted Dresser  is just my style. Pretty, but not terribly girlie with a bold pattern that says "look at me". I can't wait to move into prim rich mode again and have it out on a daily basis.

The little baskets are a new gift out from Y's House. The selection comes with two wicker colors and two handle colors, giving you four choices in all.  There are larger sets of baskets in a variety of styles nearby for your purchasing pleasure.

Mariposa has a new collection of  free bangles just out. I picked up a lot of great jewelry there last week and never got around to showing it to you. And here we have even more. So you really need to get over there and take a look at all the beautiful items available. These new bangles come in a variety of stone colors with three metal colors in each pack.  Right bangles only. Find them with other great freebies in a large gift display.

My cute, high waist capris are just part of the Monday Mania set available from Butterfly EffectZ.  The Xenia set comes with a skin showing summer top and shoes. I paired the charcoal pants with a not so new tank and some A-Bomb color change deck shoes to keep with my neutrals theme.

Hot Finds

Bargains. We all love them. Sometimes they are free; sometimes they take a little work. Now and then they cost a few Lindens. Whatever their "price", there is an excitement that comes with getting a deal. The outfit I am wearing is from [hate this] on a Monday Mania special. There is a blue version for guys and each set comes with both colors of pillows. I love the pillows; they have a great hold that works perfectly with my AO. Yeah!

Also new is this cute hair, a group gift from Alli and Ali. I changed to the new Helen skin from Amacci here as that dewy freshness seemed appropriate.

Perhaps my most exciting bit of news is that this complete gazebo with furniture and accessories is free from ADA Fine Textures in the Starry Nights hunt. Hint: it doesn't take too long to figure out the blue star you are looking for is not INSIDE the main store. While you are looking around outside, check the SOM and the other free items available -- and of course shopping is allowed if you are a content creator.

Colors of the Sea

Hopscotch and SySy's have teamed up for a spectacular Operation Squeegee set. There is a version for the guys too, so grab your fellow and explore some underwater delights. The snorkel gear comes with 4 poses and the swimsuit comes in all layers. There are choices of colors for both the underwater swimming aids and the swimwear.

Swim with the fishies and support a great cause. Operation Squeegee opens July 1.

Charcoal Sketches

New hair; almost always an occasion for celebration. Most of us probably have a RL hair horror story. Mine involves my long time hair dresser picking up the wrong color card. Instead of a lovely light auburn lass, I was a raven haired. I never saw those dark black tresses. I was not allowed.  After three additional hours in the chair (and no charge of course) I was back to a semblance of normalcy -- just in time for an art opening. Whew!

Virtual styles are so much easier to deal with, we simply pick them out, try them on and click that pay button. Amacci has three new flowing straight styles to vie for your attention. Three lengths and tons of colors, they are a dream. I like all three styles, but I think the longest is my favorite. The flow is fantastic and you can do some lovely photography with movement  -- should that be your inclination.

The poses I am using are some of the new releases from Behavior Body. I was up late in the night and tried on the first half of the release, categorizing and renaming. (These are now mod so you can add your own notes which I often do).

Not all of them worked for me of course; poses depend in part on our body relationships and my long arms are often a problem. But I've found some very special ones as you can see! There are a variety of moods, so who knows what I will find when I get through the rest of the collection?

My outfit consists of both new and old items with the cute tote bag being especially notable. It comes stuffed with all sorts of summer goodies including reading. A great photo prop in neutral colors, it is free all summer at Berries Inc.

Your eyes aren't fooling you by the way. Each of these photos is made up of two parts. The background was put through a charcoal drawing filter and the center ovals pasted on top and integrated into the "sketched" field. All photos were taken in world at Umina Beach.

Operation Squeegee

Operation Squeegee starts in less than a week. It isn't open to the public yet, but you can see the carts being set up across the canal. A charity event, EVERY ITEM is a donation item, so shopping with intent is an ease. Vendors are clearly marked with either 50% or 100% of the price going to Gulf relief efforts.

The bangles I am wearing are one of  Baubles' five items newly made for this event. The cute bucket was sent out to Squeegees by Arora Zanzibar. It comes with a pose but I adapted for this photo shoot. That's me -- endlessly adaptable.  Blue swimwear seemed a good choice of garb for this save the beach life post, so I chose one of the new summer release bikinis from Indie Rose.

Watch for posts from other vendors and bloggers as Operation Squeegee gets underway.

Exploring Y's House

Y's House has a new home, complete with rolling hills, seaside views and a fun cafe. There is a gift involved in the opening. I ventured over last eve to see the new surroundings and to discover what it might be.

A very cute 36 prim mini shop with texture change awning awaits group members. Find the gift outside the main shop on the way to the cafe.

Be sure a stop in at the very cute cafe, not far from the group gift house. The details are fantastic with items to buy from iTuTu mixed in among the furniture.

This outfit isn't new, just something I put on with a gypsy flavor. The jewelry shown is a sampling of upcoming hunt gifts - Gypsy Spirit and Addiction - from Baubles.

My poses are just a few of the huge new release from Behavior Body @ Baiastice. These are unusual poses and most likely not already in your inventory -- a plus for sure. I seemed to favor the dancing versions last eve. It may have been that flowing  So Many Styles skirt  that had me in a moving mood.  So if you are a pose junkie like me, get over to the shop and try on some poses from the STATIC POSES-PLACING-SITTING-LAYING-DANCING PACK.

Street Walking

Up in the wee hours of the morn, I had an idea for an arty photo shoot. After seeing several gorgeous pictures of what had to be a new spot (I didn't know about it after all!), I finally tracked down the just opened Nemos II in France 3D. It is a fantastic build, with so many sumptuous textures and details, I could spend a day at least walking the streets.

My new shuz are one style of the Rose River Saloon *RRS* Tough Enough release. These are the Twilight Silk version. They come with color change hud and both new and old viewer options. My photo, in its artiness, is a bit of a teaser, so you'll need to venture over to the *RRS* shop and see ALL the newness to be found. There is lots.

As I strolled the town and visited the quaint shops and lovingly made steampunk mechanisms, I "SO" wanted to live there. Nemos II is an immerse experience.

I took many, many photos; hence the collage. Enlarge a couple of times for a full 1800 pixel view. And of course, be sure and visit yourself.

While I arrived at Nemos II in very simple clothing -- shoes being the star of the planned show -- I found some free steampunk attire in the Black Opal shop. The outfit for men is not new as I have featured it in the past, but the ladies outfit (see a bit in the collage) wasn't familiar to me. I mixed the two sets for a somewhat original look for this last photo.

Enjoy the adventure!

Art, Freedom and Rules

Nipple warning!  *wink*

There is a lot of controversy going on these days. The newest is about  the SL7B event and censorship. I don't claim to know all the sides of this issue. I am trying (though not always succeeding) to adopt a no dra-ma policy.

Here is my personal take.  I  LOOOOOOVE  Rose Borchovski's ART!  But, on the Linden side there IS nudity (apparently prohibited in the SL7B display criteria). Is it a shame it was removed? To my thinking yes,  But I am also a big rule follower, so my personal reaction is disappointment rather than outrage. On the plus side, I may have missed this altogether -- not even a video -- if it wasn't for all the press coverage. So thumbs up for media in all shapes and forms!

I think this is one of two video links I have included in over 1500 posts, so you know I wanted you to see this if you WANT to :D.

An in depth coverage and the only one I have read is at NWN here.

Here is the UTube link in case you can't see the embedded movie on some of the feeds.

Post 1500

There is something about milestones. They creep up on you. This is fashion post 1500. I may or may not make it to 2,000, but even if I do -- it will be awhile. So I wanted to purposefully choose a photo that reflected how I feel today. I made several versions of this shot. Different Windlight settings came into play. Alternate filters were chosen and discarded. In the end, this one became the winner of my personal contest.

There is a glorious world outside, one to explore.

So Here's The Thing

Things shift and change -- in RL as well as in our virtual worlds. But what happens when we enter into a contract and THEN the rules change? When we "sign on" to an idea we are agreeing to the idea presented, not to another version of the scheme, not to morphing of the original plan. We put our efforts into something we believe in and sometimes the rules change too much for our comfort level. This isn't only Second Life; it is in the real world too. Still this blog is about Second Life.

I know I am being obtuse here. Eventually you may know the story as I am not one to hide from my truths. Most of us do what we feel is right, but sometimes we can't see where events are going. Sometimes other disappoint us.

Being true to ourselves is certainly the key -- even in our not quite as real lives. If I am lucky this will all work out. If not, you will hear the end of the story within the next couple of weeks. I won't be afraid to say what I think. Well, you sorta knew that -- didn'tcha?

Smiles and warm thoughts after a long day and a little disappointment.

I process very quickly. It is very obvious to me that the Summer of Love event that will occur next month is no longer an informational venue for mental health. It has become just another shopping destination. There is nothing wrong with that, only that it was not presented in that vein. All of the vast wall space surrounding the TP point that was to be filled with information on mental health issues, bullying, etc. has been sold to vendors as premium placement space. The last space is being auctioned off to the highest bidder.  According to the owner of the venue the information will be "here and there" as it was in the Black and Blue fair. OK. that may happen, but there are tons of people who have no space at the moment. I don't see a lot of room for the information that was supposed to be the focal point.

[Long involved diatribe deleted :D. Be glad.]

I wish the designers that stay all the best of success. This isn't a judgement, just my personal need to feel that I am doing what I believe in.

Comments are closed on this topic. We don't need more dra-ma this week. If the Summer of Love Fair owner would like to give her side of the story by notecard, I will post here. It won't change my truth, but I like to be as fair as possible.

SL7B - Part 2

Along with some spectacular builds, SL7B has plenty of great gifts. One of my personal favorites is this cute parrot from the Fashion Research Institute. There is also a fashion designer's giant pencil filled with lots of goodies for the creators among us.

I started out my adventures in style with a mix of new and old favorite clothes. The real newness of note is the skin I am wearing. It is one of the new skin tones of Helen from Amacci.  This is the nutmeg shade in the Cherry style.

Helen isn't going to be my new everyday skin *wink*. I feel way too young in her, but if your avatar wants to look cute, it would certainly be worth a trip to the store for a demo trying session. There is a dewy-eyed naivety that is very appealing and her lips are ever pouty :D.

See that train in the background? You can have your own copy which supposedly will run on the SL rails at the Heterocera Atoll. Pick it up at the Virtual Railway Consortium booth.

If you are in need of a tiny shop to sell your wares, you can pick up this cute Tuscan style model  from  Elin Egoyan at her booth -- Elin Design, Shopity Houses and Such.

There are sheep wagon cars, Grendel Children avatars, and even your own personal thunderstorm. So many lovely gifts. Even art!

Spanning 21 sims with over 700 contributors,  SL7B is a showcase for the accomplishments and content of all SL residents, celebrating the “life” of Second Life.

Some sims are sensory overload areas and some are quite serene. Here, at Antique Artistry,  I stopped by to pick up a lovely and free two prim Victorian lamppost with click on-off. It was a nice respite while I collected my energies. There is so much to see, I am looking forward to posts by other members of the press.

SL7B - Happy Birthday SL!

SL is 7 years old!

I have been traveling around the SL7B user created sims for a couple of hours now on a press pass. With so much to see, I am sure I have only scratched the surface. But of what I have seen, this is my personal favorite -- the TeleOctoscope: Maya Paris & L1Aura Loire @ SL7B Phenomenal. The sims are open to the public until tomorrow, but be SURE and stop by.

Aside from a tremendously impressive display -- one that you can see from far, far away, there is a media show and this great FREE outfit with AO and even a wild dance.

You can perch high above the crowds and see forever or you can swim in a water wonderland down below and watch a story unfold. Now, "I" couldn't get the media to work, but I don't do streaming media in SL and I don't think I have Quicktime installed at the moment, so I can't tell you much about the show. Alas!

This is just the VERY top of the fantastic sculpture made for the display.

From the notecard:

The TeleOctoscope has been built by cephalopods, maintained by a squad of Mer -Mechanics, and is powered by steam, tea, and chocolate.

Inspired by the 19th-century invention of the "telectroscope," it enables communication and collaboration on interactive art projects and machinima between Boston (US) and Whitstable (UK).  Excavated from below the sea for display at SL7B as an example of virtual collaborative technology, the TeleOctoscope will surprise and delight.

Many thanks to:

Uzzu Artful for the excellent mermaid tail sculptie
Jai Nomad for Gnu aluminium texture
Naima Waves by Naiman Broome
Mermaid AO from Malaika Mermaids
Dance animation by Easy Babcock

and especially to Sage Duncan of University of Kansas for all her support.

I have plenty more to show you from my adventures. A second post will follow very soon.

Glance Style

One of my personal favorite perks of blogging are the sneak peaks into new places. This afternoon I visited the new Glance Style Sim  -- opening tomorrow. You will recognize many of the shop names, old favorites as well as newer designers. The sim is ensconced in subtle textures reminiscent of a dreamy European city on the edge of some mysterious time.

Plazas mix with narrow street friendliness and the shopping is easy. Be sure and stop by during the opening party on Sunday, June 20th, 2010 at 1:00pm SLT. The party will be happening at GIA's new Plaza. Just look for the green dots and listen for the music.

Not all the shops were set up when I visited, but there were plenty of lovely gifts, dollarbies and specially priced items to be found. The Angel Dessous dress above was one of my personal favorites. I ran into Cajsa there and this looks so like her, I am wondering if we will both be wearing the same blue gown in our reports *wink*. Know that there are many styles represented from gypsy to clubbing to beach and beyond. This is not just a town of gown shops :D.

The hair is a gift from a new to me shop called .:MINA:.. There are of course many boutiques with lots to look at, so come prepared to both party and shop.

Surfing Safari

It doesn't take much to get me in the mood for some warm sandy beaches. The new surfboard pose set from
Slash Me Poses was a great excuse to enjoy the sea foam and sunset. Chav hadn't been out for awhile, poor thing, so he was chosen for today's photo shoot.

The five different boards come as both attachment and rez versions. Since Las Arenas has a no rez policy, Chav wore the boards. The wearable versions can be adjusted for placement, so that was very helpful. It was a little tricky getting these ocean shots, but it was also fun.

So if you are in the mood for some surfing photos or simply want to show off your new swimsuit in style, head on over to Slash Me Poses and take a look at the new release.

These work for gals too of course :D.

There is no question about it. I am definitely in philosophical mode these days. More mundane matters such as clothes are getting left behind as I ponder The Purpose Of Life. I am sure it will pass, but in the meantime I know that many of you expect to see at least a post a day from me. I mean REALLY!  How can I not post?

So, when I saw the last Big Bad Blogger Challenge question, it sparked some interest. I didn't do the exercise this year. Been there, done that, post all the time, rarely need a prod. I did enjoy scanning some of the comments from others however and I hope that it lead the participants on a fun journey. The question of the day for returning participants was "Did you find this year to be harder or easier than previous years?".  Since I didn't join in the fun this season, I can't answer that, but the query lead me on a journey of thought that I will share with you.

Was THIS YEAR an easier blogging experience than the previous one? That is my personal "last question". The answer is yes, it most certainly was.

There are plenty of reasons for the increased ease, and none include Plurk, Facebook or Ning *wink*. They do include some Second Life resources -- the inworld blogger groups I belong to. It's nice to know you can ask a question when you are stumped. It is even better when you can answer someone else's query. Second in my making it easier list is a long roster of locations I have found -- often on hunts or by accident -- where I can take photos in the virtual landscape. I still explore from time to time, but it no longer takes me hours to find a spot -- at least not every day.

And thirdly, there are the designers who -- after I have paid my dues -- generously send me their new releases. I no longer have to work so hard to find great things to feature. I still love those freebie items and I know you do too, but some days it is simply enough to take pretty photos and get Blogger to publish your prose without too much ado.

So, that's my answer. I've been looking both forward and back this last week. Both directions are worthy. And if I find the Meaning Of Life, I'll be sure and let you know.

In the style area, I am wearing the newest Tuli release and group gift, Tanya. A gorgeous dark skinned lovely she is Exotic with a capital E. Find the two skins (one brown and one black brows) in a small box on the entry table in the skin shop. Put on your group tag to get this lovely present. There are some gem eyes available for everyone -- also free.
