Laziness and That Blogger Chain

It is a Lazy Sunday. The event celebrates one year this week. You can pick up these cute texture change earrings at KOSH. A necklace in the same style is available.

OK. What did I just do here?  I opened a notecard received from a blogger group (in this case a small private one of a store I have liked and shopped at for years), read the info, looked at the marketing texture, decided I liked it. In this case as time was of the essence and it was the middle of the typist's night (yawn) the photo was simple, the info sparse.

There has been a fair amount of chatter in the last day about the Blogger Chain "invite" that went out to more than a handful of fashion writers. Comments ranged from indignant to confused with many recipients apparently just tossing the notecard into the trash. Being a curious gal who was still in a quandary after the follow up letter, I wrote a long message with many pointed questions. Sending it off to the assistant, I waited -- happily  receiving an answer from the head honcho.

So for those of you wondering, here's the scoop from the CEO of the new marketing company.

1. You are not required to use the photo or text that they send out. You can of course if you are LAZY (note tie in here *wink*). Some bloggers -- unfortunately to my mind -- already are in the habit of simply reposting the vendor texture from the designer. Blogger Chain members are welcome to do their own photo shoot and post in their own style.

2. You are not required (although you ARE encouraged) to post each release. The incentive for featuring is the lure of "Star Blogger" status and payment of lindens for your posts.

3. There ARE release items given out just like many of the blogger - designer groups. There does seem to be a bit more pressure to blog with this marketing model, but I may be reading that into the CEO's comments.

So, in actuality this Blogger Chain is not all that different from groups many of us already belong to and happily use as a source for some of our posts. Part of the outcry seems to be misunderstanding. Then there is the lack of clarity in the original note.

I do agree that 200 "quality" bloggers all featuring the same item would undoubtedly lead to feed overload and lengthy yawn times, even if they each did their own post. It simply isn't practical. Beyond that, it is a bit insulting -- the unstated insinuation that bloggers would take the stuff, post the readymade photo and reap the possible rewards. It does have a "ho" flavor there, one that individualistic writers and photographers are insulted by. And I suspect that will keep most of those quality bloggers away from this project.

Still, it is good to have more of the story, not just supposition :D.

LOL, should I be offended that I didn't get an invite...or glad? Tending towards the latter.
