Bringing you the best of Second Life since 2008.

R and R

2009

It is fun to search back in time looking for a favorite photo.  I knew this was OLD and I found it fairly quickly on Flickr.  Good memories. This was taken in a library that was pretty swanky for the times.

MEANWHILE ---- I purchased a sim at Kitely Thursday. Not that difficult and not much money expended so no ooohs and aaahs need to be echoed in the background as you read this post.

It is pretty obvious that I am not happy with the state of the SL nation. I need a vacation from the Machiavellian-like  drama that seems to confront us at every turn. So I am taking a break and pretty much making a home away from home.  I told the CEO of Kitely that I was not coming over to create a power base and that is so very true.  At the same time I believe in the therapeutic value of creation === whatever that may mean to individuals.

I just ordered a sim, nothing fancy.  I am still a low prim gal and don't need tons of server space or even that much room. A sim is a pretty big area.

I ported in a house on the merchant sandbox while waiting for my new land to be delivered and that was an adventure and went fairly well.  In order to GET to Kitely I had to install the S PBR viewer.  I had planned to do that on the next viewer update but since I haven't been able to do ANYTHING (paying my rent was a real chore) for days with my current version I decided to take the plunge today. It wasn't fun but it is done and it is working fine.

I will still be here blogging and hopefully posting most days. It IS getting more difficult as  creators also go on R and R or leave. And  also because I have drawn those no events lines in the sand (no regrets).

There IS another op ed coming up but I will try and post something pret-ty along the way as I know a lot of you don't really like to think that hard.  Nothing wrong with escapism.

I haven't been back to Kitely  (an opensim grid) in a few years and likely almost  decade since I had my own region. My initial impression is that it loaded much faster than previously. Uploads are all free of course (2048 textures are 1 credit and PBR is supported so it is a great place to play and hone skills etc. The land impact is very different and many mesh items are unbelievably low so I can't imagine running out of points.   It isn't for everyone, but if angst is part of your daily schedule it might be something to consider.  Some things work better than in SL and some not.  Many old OS issues are solved now so it isn't as much of a pioneering process as it has been in the past.

You DO still need a "pioneer sprit" though as it is much like going back in time so far as availability of great products like hair and clothing ^^.  I just hang out in my jeans and tee and the toolbelt that I made in 2013 when I was learning how to create mesh.   I have built whole worlds in opensim by myself and in SANSAR;  I like that feeling of accomplishment, but it isn't for everyone.

I am getting used to the PBR viewer. It is working fine and I have a couple of old Windlights that are hanging in there.  I haven't figured out if the lighting in Kitely works the same as in SL yet but time will clue me in on that.  Meanwhile except for a few twists and turns I am having a good time and resting even while working long days :D.  Gotta love that creative process.
