Creator Security and All that Jazz
Best Laid Plans - 2023
We haven't seen the official unveiling of the new policy as I type this. I am wondering a couple of things.
Was that Blogger Network renewal with freedom of speech a good thing from LL's point of view?
Maybe so as there is already a hustle and bustle and "madness" in the air. IF the announcement doesn't appear "on schedule" (judging by past posting after ZOOM meetings) then we COULD conclude that The Lab is rethinking a few things. Honestly I don't think that will happen (yet anyway) but we shall see.
Is this going to be an echo of the 2013 exodus?
I talked to a lot of old-timers today. Quite a few weren't active in 2013; some had forgotten. It was a very dark time in Second Life with a good portion of our best artists (all realms of art) leaving. Only a couple that I know of have returned. There was a big TOS change that impacted RL issues and RL jobs as well as pretty much being a slap in the face. It didn't go over well.
For anyone wanting to research, all my original posts from 2013 are still in my sidebar archives. I honestly don't remember how much I posted that year as I was pretty much over in Opensim learning my mesh skills for free. It was an OK time for me. I DID still run LEA7 and so I was here for that and I likely blogged other creators. I just stopped working in Second Life and only uploaded one texture (for LEA7) in that year.
We already have a lot of creators on the edge -- making much less than they used to with higher fees. If the "creator certification" an "watermarking" info is correct it is just one more thing -- and how much are people expected to take?
I am sure this won't be the end of the story.
PS there was a very polite forum thread asking why the other forum thread was shut down. There was no reply except for this:
The thread was opened again a few hours later (insert confused icon here).
I did end up posting again on one (maybe more ) of those threads once they calmed down to actual thoughts.
