How Can We Help?
2012 |
Someone asked me this weekend what they could do to help the creators -- well, let's say "in trouble". There IS only so much as it truly is THEIR journey and not ours. Their feelings, needs and egos come into play not ours looking from the outside in.
If you know of a creator -- new or old -- struggling financially you can point them over to the sim my new gallery is on where shops are free. I will do an official blog post on that soon when the grand opening happens but the shops are there now.
One thing everyone with the current resources can do is shop INWORLD.
Some of you are old enough to remember days BEFORE the Marketplace or even its precursor where you had a drop box (often buried in the back yard as they were ugly) when people went to malls rather than events.
Events cost the creators money.
The Marketplace takes a fee.
Let your fingers prowl through the MP listings and then go to the shop to purchase. Most shops use vendors and have redelivery terminals so there is little risk involved.
Don't be lazy; be supportive.
I doubt seriously that I will get many folks to bypass the weekend sales -- but you COULD make yourself a promise to ALSO buy something at the shop that isn't on sale.

Aside from the monetary issues there is the malaise that seems to be enveloping most of us. How can you help there?
IF you are shopping on the Marketplace still :D --- write a positive review if you like the item.
If you are being good boys and girls and shopping inworld and love something -- send a notecard with a simple "love your work on [insert item here]. Thank you for creating. Or anything along those lines.
Creators work hard. Hopefully most of us enjoy the process. But still we all want to be appreciated. In the summer of 2023 I spent one whole month creating new original Advent Gifts for people to enjoy. These were big time gifts not ten minute creations. I gave away nearly five thousand gifts and received two "thank you" notes.
I did not have an Advent calendar in 2024 and noted that many others followed that exodus from tradition.
There are likely other things you could do to support the folks that make Second Life worth being here.
