Homemade Leggings
I love leggings. I love wearing them and I love collecting them. As I was dressing for the day, it occurred to me that many of you who grew up in the great clothes era (yes, we are in that now and it will most likely only get better) may not know that you can indeed MAKE YOUR OWN.
Now making clothes takes time and effort and skill. Been there, done that, did not enjoy it. Luckily some folks do. While the average avatar isn't Photoshop royalty, anyone just out of the pod can make some pretty cool leggings with the old time tools we were given. Indeed, I used to do this when I was young and my inventory in meager straights. So here is a little tutorial for those of you that may not know you can do this, a handy skill for when you don't have time to shop. It is also a fun way to use some of the textures you pick up on hunts.
Here we go. Enlarge the little pictures for a full rez view.
Go into your inventory and choose Create> New Clothes> New Underpants. You could also choose New Pants if you want that layer.
Thanks again to WoE for making undies on that tattoo layer.
You will find yourself in some really ugly and badly made Bermuda shorts in basic white. You are now wearing your "New Underpants".
Don't worry. It DOES get better.
Right click on yourself and choose "Appearance" from the pie chart.
Your avatar goes into an arms out stance.
CHOOSE THE UNDERPANTS (or Pants if you are making that layer) TAB. BE SURE YOU ARE NOT EDITING YOUR APPEARANCE.
Move the sliders to the right so your pants are as long and high as they can be. You will have no fancy edging on your homemade leggings, so covering up those areas is the final plan.
Now comes the fun. Click on the fabric square in the New Underpants pane.
This will open up your inventory and show you available textures. You can browse through the options, trying out the textures (double click) to find a fun look. If you want fine patterned leggings you will want a 512 texture with a smallish pattern. Smaller sized textures and bolder patterns will give you some wild but fun additions to your wardrobe. Tint the leggings if you wish. Choose SAVE AS and give your leggings an appropriate name.
Alternately, you could look through your available textures by double clicking them in you inventory, find some you like and then drag those over to the "fabric" square in the "New Underpants" window.
That's it; a fun and creative way to add a change to your wardrobe. Wear with boots and sweaters or long tops to hide the unfinished edges, and be reminded that in the Olden Days this was the norm. We've come a long way.
Click on any photo for a high rez version. You may need to enlarge further with the zoom tool.
