She Was In Fact Quite Mad

Anna's Many Murders is the lastest sim sized installation by Bryn Oh. I spent a good while there last  weekend and returned this eve for some fashion shots (must be legal for the feeds). For me, this is the most interesting example of Bryn's work. It is a bit like falling down the rabbit hole and indeed I took a wrong turn on my first visit and had to take a leap of faith off of a cliff to get back to the story line (literally).

I won't spoil the plot for those you you that haven't visited. It is indeed a tale. Art meets Lizzie Borden. It is wonderfully executed with layers upon layers of meaning and details that you can easily miss the first time through the maze.

Anna is mad you see. Of that there is no doubt. But in her madness beauty hides, escape from the real world that has let her down so many times.

My fashion fest for the eve is part of the new release from Blue Blood, Delicia with oriental detailing and optional short skirts.

Rider

Newness, goodness, freeness and a lovely dusty sunset -- here's the story.

I covered a portion of The ??? Hunt today. This highly scripted, hud and menu activated bike from GS Creations is definitely my favorite find. You could spend several days playing with the menus; you can even induce flight! There's a spot for your honey on the back.

Now I am not a good driver of anything with wheels. I seem to be OK with boats, but on terra ferma I would not pass my driving test. But even if you never drive the Chopper RX1400, the detail and complexity make it a wonderful prop. Heck, park it out in front of your home! Impress the neighbors.  So get over to the shop and look for a sculpty question mark.

Chav's outfit of the day is a new release from .:CW MALE:. . While this isn't exactly what I think of as biker attire, I like the quirky incongruity and think the duo made a fun post. The outfit called Metro comes in a variety of color mixes, complete with shoes and satchel -- I believe that is called a "man bag" these days. *wink*. A little casual, a little retro -- I especially like the pants with the belt peaking through just a bit. Fun. The satchel is nicely detailed and I may steal that hat from time to time.

Our new sunglasses were a grab it after the event gift from the other eve. They are by elysion Lomu who only sells on the Marketplace. They, like the bike, have so very many options (facelight, no push, spy system, autosmile). Oh my!

Give Me Color

There is a lot of newness over at Mimi's Choice and that includes these oh so bright and cleverly surrealistic pants from GizzA (free). If you journey over to GizzA's new main store you can find a huge display of very nice group gifts at the entrance. Items for the guys and the gals are displayed artfully in the upscale shop. If you are a shop-a-holic this is not a good place for you to be *wink*.

These striking pants call for attention and many a gal will be happy to get it. To balance out the color, I delved deep into my inventory and found some great coordinating items. My sandals are new of course, from the Shoe Fair. They tinted easily to match my new free skin from Ramya Skins (see yesterday's post). This is one of the many dark tan versions in the gift. The group gifts were supposed to come down today, but the owner assures me he will leave them awhile longer so you won't miss them :D.

Also new is a cute little breast tattoo from Wicked Tattoos. This came to me this morning as I TPed in to check the Midnight board (once again on lockdown). The text says, "single" and there is a "taken" version also. All layers are included and there is also a store tee shirt. Watch the drop down alerts when you come in and accept the welcome gift.

PS. I did more exploring in the Yasum - Ramya complex. Well you KNOW I would! And found some stellar role play outfits, boots etc. (Hot, Hot, Hot) -- and a cute and casual group gift for guys and gals. So be sure and check out the other parts of the complex.  Just wear your same tag when clicking the boards.

Patio Goodies

A very quick post to tell you about a Moody Monday deal at Clutter. I saw the announcement and zipped over intending to leave myself at the shop for the eve so I wouldn't forget on the morrow. So many places to go (a MM board is on my early morning list).  This whole set including the garden implements and pots is on sale for a day. The bench has lots of pose choices and /1a adjustments.

The even better news is that the vendor has been set up now :D. So I got my goodies and headed home. Honestly, now with NO gardening goods except my potting bench (backup yeah) I was in need of more outdoor accessories. So I will be adding the rake, shovel and pots to my place in the Bayou and the bench (too modern for 1900) to my outdoor spot at a friend's place. Such a bargain!

Get There Now

With two tones for the guys and three for the gals, each fatpacks with tons of choices, these are the nicest free skins I have seen for awhile. Of course, there is the "fitting" factor, but if you have a group slot available, give them a try. The male versions come with hair bases, chest hair, tattoos and two facial hair choices. The ladies styles include a variety of makeups, cleavage and hairbases. The place?

Yasim Design!

Note: this is a completely unretouched photo -- *wink*. Just added the frame.

There is a free shape available for gals that is mod should you need a starting place.

Rainy Days

Cupcake, while still under construction, is now open. Vendors are busy setting up and a few shops are empty (but rented). There are several shopping areas so far within the sim as well as empty space for what looks to be a continuation of the theme. Each section has its own character. I liked this slightly grungy area the best.  There are wonderful places to explore and photo ops abound. New stores and old favorites combine in a shopping bonanza.

The textures, especially on the "Rue" are superb. Street levels dip and climb. Realistic water features abound. Tiny shops hide along narrow paths. There are large fancy stores too of course as well as empty buildings added for atmosphere. The facades are used very well and unless you are peaking behind walls (some of us are a curious bunch) you feel you are very much in a small European town.

My rainy day outfit is a mix of old and new and somewhere in between. My new rain boots come from the Oh My Stars hunt. Honestly I spent a lot of time hunting there yesterday and didn't find that much. Some stores have signs out letting you know they are participating which helps. Still, it seems like the numbers of stores involved is low. So thanks to Duh! for not only making the raindrop HUGE (hint: look up -- really up) but for having these cute boots out for free. Happily they matched some leggings from Shanias Sock Shop. My hoodie is a new release from DCNY. (See previous post for all the news on that.)

Roots

I've been out exploring this morning -- something I don't do as much of lately. Busy times lead to less leisure, especially if you have a virtual work ethic *wink*. But it is the weekend and adventures are a part of that. "Note to self: Pencil in weekend explorations as mandatory."

My adventuress outfit is a bit classier than my usual mode. It didn't need to be. This new Saturday bargain set from Acid & Mala has plenty of choices. It can be a sleek top, a blousey top, a layered dress or the version I am showing you. There are plenty of prim choices (all manual mod) to let you find just the look you want. I was so thrilled that I could get the prim skirt to fit perfectly with no hips peeking through as my AO did its thing, that I donned my new wedge sandals and went out for a stroll. The batik print can be dressed up or down. Wear the top with jeans or short? Sure you can.

My necklace is a virtual antique from Bliensen + MaiTai. I have been thinking of the past a lot these days. A big inventory loss can easily lead in that direction. I can remember finding this necklace on a small cart amidst others in a fantasy like forest setting. I took photos at that spot for a long time. Now it is gone. At the time, the necklace was spectacular. Now the designers have gone on to more complex work. Sculpties have helped with that along with all sorts of general SL improvements. It is still nice to have a little bit of history.  So here's to a special day of explorations on August 26th 2008. Visit their shop to see the new stuff *wink*.

On The Boardwalk

Happily, I get quite a few releases from Shania's Sock Shop. Alas, they often stick around my current release folder (inappropriately called "This Week's New Stuff" ) waiting for a matching garment to pair them with. So I was very pleased to find this cute Spring dress in a box of newness. The dress comes in pink as well a black, has a touch of retro which I love and a sassy swinging skirt that will definitely have the guys watching your legs.

And while you are visiting the shop, be sure and check out the mannequin vendors scattered around the area. One of them is a dollarbie. Easy hunting.

Special thanks to Cajsa for her post of the morn that lead me here, and for letting us know when she finds a fun new spot.

Ruby By Any Other Name

This is the new Beloved gown from Krouse's Sanctum. Rich colors and fine detailing are highlighted in this cranberry version. There is actually a "ruby" toned style available; a little more intense, it is also lovely. For me, this was close enough to ruby for our color of the week. The skirt moves slowly and beautifully and all in all it is an impressive design.

Stylewise it can span the centuries quite well, fitting into a modern era or more Victorian theme. I hope that some day I will be wearing it at a period ball. It is so lovely. One caveat and not a terribly big one, because of the bow centers which are as small as SL let's us make prims, the skirt is not easily resizable. If you have some building skills, it is simple enough to edit the bow centers (only two) to make them larger and then shrink the complete skirt using the "stretch" feature. Those of you with skinny hips and no building skills are still in luck as the designer assures me that she tailors items as needed for customers. How nice!

With thirteen colors to choose from, you are bound to discover a favorite or two. Find the vendors near the entrance, on the left.

Forest Glade

Just out (or maybe not until tomorrow :D) from SLC Fashion, Michelle is a complete styling for those of you who would rather play at the beach or club rather than in your closet. It is on deeply discounted special so if this looks like you, get over there soon. I especially like the flowered bandeau top which somehow seem to fit me better than others I have tried of this same style. That makes me happy of course! The set includes some very cute sandals with prim feet as well as jewelry in the theme of the flowers on the sandals.

Being someone that DOES like to play in her closet, I added a non-coordinating necklace. Sometimes we just need to be WILD! *wink*.  The sandals and feet are attached to the prim section of the pants. This is both good and bad news -- I'll leave that for you to decide. The all in one design certainly makes for easier adjustments and you never have to worry about the flared pants being out of sync with the legs and feet. The down side is that you can't wear the shoes with other outfits.

My very pretty hair is the talk of the freebie blogs, so most likely not really news, but if you haven't picked up this set of hairs from Vive 9 you might want to make it over soon. I got mine yesterday and I have no idea how long they will be out. You get a set of various colors, all very pretty. Adjusting may be a bit tricky and big busted gals will most likely not be able to use these. Still, just seeing the very pretty hair textures is a plus. Find the gift in a very small box on the desk in the hair salon.

Delta Blues

DCNY has a new casual set out perfect for sports, play or lounging. It comes in pastels as well as darker hues and includes capri length pants as well as the shorter version shown here. Typically, one might head for an active place -- a golf course, a hiking trail, even a shopping expedition. I was in more of a country mood this morning with the lure of travel on my mind.

My styling ended up a mix of contemporary attire with some vintage thrown in. Still casual, I am hoping it is different enough to peak your interest. I headed over to Mississippi Delta Blues, always a fun place to visit. There the past comes alive and we can visit the South in the 1930s. Amazingly that is almost a century ago.

Getting Ethnic

Yesterday was a tough day in virtual land. Many sims were offline and I spent a lot of the time folded in half with my center innards available for viewing. I hadn't seen that phenomena in a year or more. I did manage to:  A. buy some new hair and B. win some cute sandals. Putting together this outfit took much longer than planned, but I am happily "beachy" and can wear this styling often in the upcoming months.

My impressively creative new braids hale from Discord Designs. I saw a post by the designer on the feeds and zipped right over to see what might suit me. I was in the market for something different and these choices certainly fit the bill. Most styles come with hair bases as well a prim braids; this Ariadne style comes as shown (no hairbase used) as well as braids only (no underlayer of hair). You get four colors in a pack and the Celtic one I chose gives you red, blond, brown and ginger -- so lots of different looks, not just subtle changes. I really liked the grays tones as well as some of the other styles, but this seemed to fit me best. Since my viewer currently only does one tattoo layer and Tuli's skins come with reddish brown brows as default -- well, pragmatism came into play.

These complex amaama fringed sandals come from a five minute lucky board here

While certainly a great lucky board prize, the HUD only changes the skin tone and size, not all the parts and pieces shown in the graphics. The other choices may have been disabled for the free version.

EDIT: Please see the comments to find out how you can actually change the parts and pieces.

Also, these sandals have LONG feet so will work best for tall thin model type avatars *wink*.

Genteel Tea

I took this photo at my first lady's tea this afternoon. The conversation was enlightening, the deserts so lovely no one dared partake  -- we have our hourglass waists to watch after all. The photo has gone through the Time Machine filter of my software in an attempt to replicate the photography period of the time. I found a border that looks very much like a Polaroid transfer print, a process I experimented with some a few years ago. There is a fine mesh graininess much like the screening process once used for newspaper photographs.

My outfit is all vintage. I suspect that the only item still available would be the lovely signature hat from Hatpins. I did find that the fantasy boots from the Fantasy Faire release of Lassitude & Ennui match my gown perfectly; a thrill.

Creativity - Or No

Yes, tis me sitting in my new outhouse. This is not a post about outdoor plumbing although it was fun making my little piece of history. This is a mini-rant with minimal fist waving and maximum sighing. I just hate to post text without some sort of photo and this one seemed appropriate :D.

I scan the feeds most days -- to keep abreast, to see what might be in a box that I haven't had time to open, to be aware when the whole blog-o-sphere already knows about "Dress A, Hair B, Shoes C" etc. There are some glorious photos on blogs these days; there is some great styling. Note that one skill doesn't necessarily lead to another and that's OK with me. I will take either. These gals and guys are working at their craft. They are in a small way "media" :D. We, as bloggers, are part of the giant wheel that is virtual fashion.

Lately I have noted a not too new trend becoming more pronounced. Some blogs are simply posting vendor photos on their site. This has little to do with the Blogger Chain invites of the last few days; this started before that. Since the outcry about simply posting someone else's photos seemed pretty loud -- at least in some circles -- I would surmise that I am not the only one sighing when they see yet again a vendor photo.

Now I have nothing against vendor photos; some of them are lovely. I really do want to see what the designers are coming up with and what is available -- I just want to hear about it from the DESIGNERS.

There are plenty of skill levels out there on the feeds. New folks may lack experience or even a hefty enough computer to see our world as it can be. Most of them, however, are trying! They put together their outfits, they take their pictures, they post with SLURLs and sometimes prose about the outfits they are showing. They are having fun, I hope. They are being creative.

In my perfect world, we would all love doing what we are doing enough to put forth a little effort.

And that's what I am thinking.

Style Notes are HERE.

In The Country

There's nothing like mixing work with play! I was in the mood for some exploration. I had a newly styled outfit on. I really needed to go through my recently arrived poses and move them to their appropriate categorized homes. Put the parts together and that spells P-H-O-T-O-S-H-O-O-T!

Some of my favorite new poses come from Juxtapose. These are from the "Come Undone" set which includes what I call "above the waist" poses -- the ones you need for jewelry and those fancy poofy skirted dresses. Always happy to have more in my collection, these were added in a blink.

My outfit is part (and only part) of the MIAO special for Moody Monday. If you have watched this blog for awhile, you may have noted that I am not a gal who favors shorts. This may be a leftover aversion from real life where thighs are SO not as good as their virtual counterpart. But, I loved the Springlike top and the sash fits perfectly; just a little downsizing with the stretch tool and it caressed every curve.

I donned some of my favorite jeans and super swanky new sandals and headed for the road.

I ended up in South Farthing.

Addiction for Monday

Whether you favor red or blue, you can pick up an intricately textured jewelry set at Addiction on Monday. The  Rosemailing release is part of the Moody Mondays special. The sets (either red or blue) feature two necklace styles that can be attached to either the spine or chest, bracelets for left and right wrist, and matching earrings. Bracelet come with resize script or without; both are no mod. The unscripted bangles will fit most avatars, those of us that are a bit super-sized need to use the scripted versions. The second necklace style is simpler without the small beads.

There are dollarbies at the store entrance :D.

My pose is a new release from Juxtapose, part of the "Come Undone" set.

Shoe Fair Retro Style

If you were avoiding the crowds at the opening of the Shoe Fair, now is a perfect time to venture over. While shoppers are still in evidence, lag has magically disappeared. Walking was a pleasure and peaking in the stores much fun.  A-Bomb had several new releases for the fair; I showed you one of my favorites a few days ago. For those of you in the retro camp -- and I am a member of that club -- there are some slightly wild and oh so much fun zebra slingbacks called Katy. This have color change back straps and soles. With lots of bright colors as well as white and black, you can be as bold as you like or stay on the more sedate side of the equation. Shoes come in both viewer 1 and viewer 2 versions.

I had outfits to pair with these retro gems, but I was patiently waiting for something new AND fitting to appear. Happily, Ibizzare has a just out tunic mini that fits the bill perfectly. It comes accented in a variety of 70s colors. I chose kiwi. A young and carefree style, it can be worn as a dress or a top. I took it to a dance party at the beach and felt perfectly attired.

It is heart warming when you can go shopping and help someone in the process. Donation item vendors abound and you will likely find more than one style that you simply can't resist.  Proceeds go to Soles4Souls, a shoe charity.

Keep up to date with fair news at the official blog.

The fair ends the 27th. So what are you waiting for?

Laziness and That Blogger Chain

It is a Lazy Sunday. The event celebrates one year this week. You can pick up these cute texture change earrings at KOSH. A necklace in the same style is available.

OK. What did I just do here?  I opened a notecard received from a blogger group (in this case a small private one of a store I have liked and shopped at for years), read the info, looked at the marketing texture, decided I liked it. In this case as time was of the essence and it was the middle of the typist's night (yawn) the photo was simple, the info sparse.

**************************************

There has been a fair amount of chatter in the last day about the Blogger Chain "invite" that went out to more than a handful of fashion writers. Comments ranged from indignant to confused with many recipients apparently just tossing the notecard into the trash. Being a curious gal who was still in a quandary after the follow up letter, I wrote a long message with many pointed questions. Sending it off to the assistant, I waited -- happily  receiving an answer from the head honcho.

So for those of you wondering, here's the scoop from the CEO of the new marketing company.

1. You are not required to use the photo or text that they send out. You can of course if you are LAZY (note tie in here *wink*). Some bloggers -- unfortunately to my mind -- already are in the habit of simply reposting the vendor texture from the designer. Blogger Chain members are welcome to do their own photo shoot and post in their own style.

2. You are not required (although you ARE encouraged) to post each release. The incentive for featuring is the lure of "Star Blogger" status and payment of lindens for your posts.

3. There ARE release items given out just like many of the blogger - designer groups. There does seem to be a bit more pressure to blog with this marketing model, but I may be reading that into the CEO's comments.

So, in actuality this Blogger Chain is not all that different from groups many of us already belong to and happily use as a source for some of our posts. Part of the outcry seems to be misunderstanding. Then there is the lack of clarity in the original note.

I do agree that 200 "quality" bloggers all featuring the same item would undoubtedly lead to feed overload and lengthy yawn times, even if they each did their own post. It simply isn't practical. Beyond that, it is a bit insulting -- the unstated insinuation that bloggers would take the stuff, post the readymade photo and reap the possible rewards. It does have a "ho" flavor there, one that individualistic writers and photographers are insulted by. And I suspect that will keep most of those quality bloggers away from this project.

Still, it is good to have more of the story, not just supposition :D.
